"I love how "candle in the dark" sings. But if you notice there are too many syllables now in the first line when you add "maybe I'm never gonna" For me you'd have to keep it the same number. So you could say:
Maybe I could change your mind
If I could light a candle in the dark
that would fit better over the melody...play with that amount of syllables....
