lovely , awesome song!! i do think poo should be in it somewhere , don’t ya think ? hehehe P.S. you’re thin and pretty
You are too good to me, Walker. Now never mind and go write some more awesome lyrics!
hehe thank you , i would like to know a little more about her truck…..maybe in another song lol teasing 🙂
I was going to submit poo as a lyric, but then I remembered you beat me to it Walker.
hahahahhaaa i hope it makes it into the song !
I have a question about the rhyme scheme. Currently it is AABA AABB AABB. I was curious whether it is common to deviate from a strict rhyme scheme.
I think, in this case it could deviate to AB AB.
ABAB can be nice in lyrics, though I’m thinking that it can be tricky in this system of submissions coming in line by line. If people have unlimited choices it is actually more limiting than if they just make their own rhymes. Know what I mean? It seems the majority of lines that come in are rhyming couplets.
Brad Roberts was at the helm of our inaugural collaboration and requested rhyming couplets, so I think we have all just gotten into the habit of that. But Hookist is designed to be changing and evolving with each new artist, so we are up for anything!
My initial question was specifically about line 2. Alas, held back by gravity/ so many laws to live by. This is the only line in the song that follows a different rhyming pattern. I was just curious whether that is a commonly used technique to improve the variety of the song.
Its tricky for me…as in…Ive never written songs without being with the person – to work things out personally. This is an experience though. I’m used to working out a riff with the band…jamming on it for a little bit…and having a melody and sometimes lyrics come to me right then and there….so this is a great exercise for people that aren’t used to writing this way. 🙂
It’s quite lovely. I am honored that you chose a few of my lines. To me, it has a feeling of Mary Gauthier, who is very cool, just like you Ellen!
I agree with you Kathryn. It is an honour to have a line ‘chosen’ to be used in a song by an accomplished artist. For me this is a real learning experience and often, trying to fit my thoughts into a defined number of syllables is not an easy task. Also, Mary Gauthier is quite a song writer and Kathryn, you have a few good licks of your own. Looking forward to seeing more from you!
Honour shmonour! You are lyrical gold, baby!
The song is fantastic so far. Love the melody. Can’t wait to see how the story ends.
II wonder about that too, Dan. So interesting.
I think it might even be more difficult to pick other people’s lyrics to use in a song you are putting together than it would be to do it all yourself. I, as you, never know what to expect next. There are so many wonderful words being offered and you are putting them together beautifully.
Thanks! But really, with so much good stuff to chose from, it’s effortless
It really is beautiful. I think its kind of thrilling watching all the different ideas roll in. And then its kinda mind-blowing seeing Ellen work her magic and make the lines her own.
I agree, you are amazingly talented!
I love the song Ellen. Your voice is still absolutely stunning!
But am I thin?

Like tyke (a small child) but with a ‘y’ at the end.
She’s the Greek goddess of fortune
It’s beautiful. Your voice sounds amazing and the lyrics are great. Very talented crowd. I have been intimidated, but I am going to get my courage up!

Damn you, autocorrect! I meant to say to Smiley Lizard, throw your hat into the ring! 😁
I think it’s totally gorgeous! Very ethereal, but with a cool sensibility – reminds me a bit of Mazzy Star, who I love.
