When critiquing country songs, those who are more seasoned writers often mention that there's a certain sound to a Nashville song, that the language needs to be conversational, etc. I've often heard - listen to what's playing on the radio. That's the sound you're going for. At the same time, the song needs to be fresh, original, a subject that hasn't already been written about. How does one create a cookie cutter song that's fresh?
